THE GREEN BOOK SHOEBOX EVENT - GREENSBORO, NC

June 19, 2021

Juneteeth Celebration - Commemorating the Emancipation of African-American Slaves

The Historic Magnolia House is one of only four Green Book sites in North Carolina still in operation. The property housed some of our nation’s most well-known African Americans during segregation. Event participants enjoyed a physical & 3D Virtual Tour of the house. Leading up to the event & after the tour, information was shared about The Negro Motorist Green-Book: A travel guide for Blacks used during Jim Crow from 1936 to 1966. Attendees gathered for a complimentary Shoebox lunch while engaging in discussion with Magnolia House staff about the impacts of the historical location on the City of Greensboro & travelers of color.
